Recipe for Paint Extender
(or Finger Paint)

  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • ¾ cup water

Put 5 cups of water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup cornstarch and and ¾ cup water; dissolve.

When water in saucepan is near boiling, add cornstarch/water mixture. Stir with a wire whisk until mixture becomes thick and less milky-looking. Remove from heat and cool.

You can add this to tempera paint to "extend" it and make it last longer. Or, simply add a little food coloring or a small amount of liquid tempera paint to make Finger Paint.
