Classic Toilet Training Guide
Now Includes Special Needs, Early Training
Seattle book publisher Parenting Press has issued a second edition of Mommy! I Have to Go Potty! (2nd ed.).
Created by Jan Faull, a Seattle parent educator and longtime columnist for the Seattle Times, Mommy! has been expanded by Oakland CA pediatric nurse and parent educator Helen F. Neville to include training special needs kids, working with a child care provider, the controversial early training, and how a child’s temperament can affect the training process.
This common-sense guide helps parents and caregivers determine if a child is ready for toilet training, how to handle a child’s resistance, what to do about accidents, why a temporary return to diapers may be a good idea, and how to help a child with bedwetting, soiling and constipation.
Health care providers’ comments include:
“Very comprehensive and well written.”
— Peter Levine, M.D., pediatrician, Walnut Creek CA
“A very rational approach to the universal ritual of potty training. [The authors’] common sense, websites, references and anecdotes all merge to provide a reassuring and encouraging approach.”
— Gary Spector, M.D., Polyclinic Pediatrics, an associate clinical professor, University of Washington Department of Pediatrics; and staff pediatrician, Seattle Children’s Hospital.
“Effectively identifies and addresses the issues of a child’s physical, intellectual, emotional, and social readiness . . . .Extremely helpful information and sound advice on the how-to’s. . .”
— Nancy Glass-Quattrin, RN, BSN, BCIAC
Encopresis Treatment Center, Edmonds, WA
