Media Questions

Who's too young to be taught first-aid techniques?

"Almost no one," say Maribeth and Darwin Boelts, a teacher/firefighter team who have both completed EMT training. If you're considering a feature or a sidebar on what and how to teach children to handle emergencies, here are some questions you may find helpful when you interview the Boelts.

  • What's the first thing every child should be taught about emergencies?

  • When should parents start teaching their children first aid and emergency-response skills?

  • How can parents and teachers introduce first aid lessons without frightening children?

  • Is it better to teach first aid in a classroom or at home?

  • Can you cite some examples of children who have successfully used the techniques in your book in emergency situations?
