About Lisa Poelle, M.A.

Lisa Poelle

Lisa Poelle teaches at City University of New York School of Professional Studies and consults to parents, teachers, caregivers, and early childhood programs. With more than 25 years of experience in child development and parent education, she frequently speaks on such topics as fighting and biting at early childhood conferences and educational seminars.

Poelle began researching biting in the 1980s when, as a consultant to childcare centers, she was often asked to observe children who insisted on biting. What she found were several common reasons children typically bite—and that all of these causes require that adults make changes. These changes might be needed in the child's environment, schedule, or in how boundaries on behavior are established and maintained.

A California native, Poelle earned her B.A. and M.A. at Pacific Oaks College. The mother of two grown sons, she lives in Manhattan with her husband, a school administrator.
