About Parenting Press

Begun in 1979 when researcher-turned-parent Elizabeth Crary self-published her first book, Without Spanking or Spoiling: A Practical Approach to Toddler and Preschool Guidance, Parenting Press has now issued more than 75 books by 35 authors.

Without Spanking or Spoiling cover

Carefully field-tested, each Parenting Press book is intended to be a modern classic—a book of substance and enduring value. A book you will turn to again and again. The books written for parents and others who work with children offer concrete tools for child development and guidance. Our goal is to help you identify what kind of parent you want to be, not dictate what you should do.

The books published by Parenting Press for children are designed to teach kids how to think through and solve problems, especially questions of interpersonal relations, personal safety and ethics. We also publish several books that promote emotional literacy, that help children identify, articulate and manage such feelings as anger, grief, pride and frustration.

Today our founder, Elizabeth Crary, is a nationally recognized parenting educator with more that 30 books in print. More than 160,000 copies have been sold of her Without Spanking or Spoiling. Even more popular is Lory Freeman's It's MY Body, with almost 220,000 copies sold, and The Way I Feel, written and illustrated by Janan Cain, with almost a million and a half copies in print. Many of the Press's books have been honored with awards and reviews in professional and consumer magazines.
